About Us
The Appalachian Ski Patrol(ASP) is a member of the National Ski Patrol(NSP). We are first and foremost a volunteer organization with a passion for winter sports and for helping people. We use our Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) skills and a knowledge of mountain operations to help the visitors to Appalachian Ski Mtn in Blowing Rock, NC.
The ASP was chartered in 1962 with the construction of Blowing Rock Ski Lodge, Inc. In 1968 Blowing Rock Ski Lodge, Inc was purchased by Grady Moretz and four partners, and became Appalachian Ski Mtn. It was the first ski area in Northwestern North Carolina.
The ASP totals approximately 130 active members but we are eager to increase our membership. We continue to invest in our members through training and a commitment to develop one of the finest ski patrols in the world. We have a great time on the mountain furthering our enthusiasm for the sport, our medical knowledge, and enjoying the great camaraderie of a team of other like-minded individuals.
ASP is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) dedicated to the training and development of its members as well as the safety and experience of the skiing public. Gifts of gratitude are tax-deductible and may be made through the “Donation” portal at appskipatrol.org and a donation receipt will be provided.

Hello and welcome to the Appalachian Ski Patrol website. We appreciate your interest in and support of our ski patrol as we work tirelessly to support the visitors of Appalachian Ski Mtn. and our local community. The Appalachian Ski Patrol is made up primarily of volunteer ski patrollers from all over the Southeast. We are a diverse group of like-minded winter enthusiasts who share a passion for skiing/riding and helping people.
We are always looking to recruit new members regardless of their medical background or experience. Growing our membership and ensuring a team-oriented family-first atmosphere is one of our primary responsibilities and a charge that we take very seriously.
